Classic donuts from back in the day are as old-fashioned as it gets for me. These are my absolute favorite donuts because they are simply irresistible—fluffy, soft, and just so delicious.
Coating them in sugar and filling them with crème pâtissière, which is a luscious combination of vanilla pastry cream and cold cream, makes them absolutely heavenly.
It’s a classic filling that adds such a lovely, indulgent touch.
What I love most is how versatile they are. If you’re not a fan of pudding-like fillings, there are so many other options to try. You can fill them with ganache—maybe a rich chocolate ganache or a fruity one for a fun twist.
Vanilla pastry cream on its own is always a hit, or you can even go simple with a dollop of jam in the center.
Honestly, though, these donuts are just as amazing on their own. When they’re fresh and slightly warm, with that sugar coating giving just the right amount of sweetness, it’s an experience all on its own.
They’re loved by so many for good reason—there’s just something about biting into a perfectly soft, fluffy donut that’s hard to beat. For maximum freshness and flavor, make sure to enjoy them the same day they’re made.
Trust me, they’re worth every bite.
